Meals

All meals will be provided in the dining hall, except Wednesday dinner which is a cook-in-campsite meal with a very simple menu so that you and your Scouts can enjoy cooking and eating together in your campsite. Troops may also choose to have an in-campsite hot dog lunch on Wednesday (optional).

Food Equipment for In-Campsite Meal(s) on Wednesday

Meriwether provides all the gear you’ll need for the Wednesday campsite dinner, including paper plates and disposable utensils so that all that you need to clean is a dutch oven. Your Scouts will need to find or bring their own stick for roasting marshmallows, however.

Feel free to bring a dutch oven or two if you would like. Otherwise, the camp has dutch ovens that you may borrow, and camp will provide charcoal for the campsite-cooking meal.

Dining Hall Operation

Our food service operations have transitioned to serving “cafeteria” style, rather than the traditional “family” style service we’ve provided in the past. We are normally able to serve every camper within five to ten minutes after the meal begins. We will offer second helpings after we’re able to get all our campers through the serving lines.

At the first meal of the week and at following meals as needed, we will explain the process of lining up for food, finding your table, seconds, and cleaning up afterwards. Once you and your Scouts get used to the “flow,” meals become very efficient.

Waiter Duty

At each meal, we’ll need two Scouts for each table to set up cups, silverware, and chairs. They just need to arrive fifteen minutes before the meal and we’ll walk them through the process.

Special Needs Meals

Meriwether has a special-diets menus for persons with a variety of food challenges. Please fill out a Special Needs Form for each person so that our team can meet the needs.

Persons with very restrictive food needs may want to bring their own food, or supplemental food. This can be stored in the kitchen refrigerator - please mark clearly with name and troop number. No persons may enter the kitchen per health rules, but the kitchen team will gladly work with you to retrieve food items whenever needed.
