Meriwether takes pride in offering quality merit badge instruction because we know that merit badges are one of the crucial building blocks of a Scout’s success.

Signing-up for Badges

There is no need to sign up for badges - just show up at the first session it is offered, usually on Monday. In the unlikely event that a class size exceeds what the instructor can handle, we will move staff members around to meet the needs of each class.

There are a few classes that cannot exceed capacity for safety reasons which have a lottery (see below).

Merit Badges with Limited Space

There are three classes that may be done on a lottery basis due to limited class-sizes: Metalworking MB and Climbing MB, and Colter’s Trek.

For these merit badges, Scouts will sign up after Sunday dinner and the instructors for those classes will conduct a lottery. They will post the final list of those who made it into the class on a bulletin board in the Scoutmaster Hallway by Monday breakfast.

There is no sign-up for these prior to arriving at camp. If your group is arriving after Sunday dinner or is delayed, please contact the camp no earlier than a week before you arrive and we will work out a reasonable accommodation.

Merit Badge Schedule

The Merit Badge Schedule is found here. It may be printed by downloading (right click) and printing as an image. We suggest making duplicates of them for your Scouts and adult leaders to refer to during their week at camp.

We will do our best to keep our schedule as it is printed here, but circumstances might require changing badges and/or schedule. If such a change is necessary, it will be updated on this portal.

Partials are Not Failures

A partial is not a failure; please do not treat them as such, especially in front of Scouts. Every requirement finished is a success and means that the Scout is that much closer to completing the merit badge.

Some merit badge requirements cannot be completed at camp due to length of time or other factors that are not possible at camp. See the merit badge schedule and program area pages for details on which badges will be partials.

Staff merit badge counselors are only authorized to sign off requirements that are completed at camp.

Completing Partials at Camp

If a Scout has already partially completed a merit badge that they’d like to work on at camp, have them fill out a second merit badge card; our counselors will use the new one to record what is completed at camp. At the end of the week, the counselor will sign off on the requirements the Scout finished with us. When you return home you can put the two cards together to determine if the Scout has completed everything and have fully earned the merit badge.

How Many Badges to Take

Scouts should plan to work on three or four merit badges at camp. Any more than that can detract from the camp experience, which should include a balance between troop and patrol building, merit badges and advancement, camp-wide activities, and fun with other Scouts.

Bring to Class

Bring paper and pencil/pen to every merit badge class.

Nothing is needed from the Trading Post for any Monday classes; wait until after your first class to purchase kits, bracelets, etc. so you know exactly what is expected of you and you are sure you will stay in the class.

For merit badges that have two being taught at one time, if you need only one speak to the instructor.
