Early Morning

For all you early risers and go-getters, Butte Creek offers a chance to start your day the cowboy way. Before breakfast, you can head down to the Pioneer Barn or the Horse Barn to help feed the many animals that call the ranch home. You'll get a real taste of life in the Old West, tossing hay to the horses and filling troughs for the barnyard critters. Just sign up ahead of time and check in with the staff, and you’ll be all set to lend a hand as the ranch wakes up to greet the day.

Flag

At Butte Creek, we start each day with the morning flag ceremony and wind down with the evening flag ceremony. These traditions are more than just routines, they're a chance to show respect and pride. Scouts are asked to dress respectfully, with uniform shirts tucked in and looking sharp. It’s a special time to come together as a camp and honor our country. So, straighten those hats, tuck in those shirts, and be ready to take part in this timeless tradition!

Station Rotations

After breakfast, Scouts will join their Frontier Groups and head to scheduled activity stations. Each station is led by a staffer with a passion for sharing new skills and creating fun, hands-on experiences. Scouts will build confidence as they learn and explore, with stations organized by location and theme to make the most of your time at Butte Creek.

Adults, you’ll have the chance to jump in and help out, working alongside station staff to ensure every Scout has a great experience. Our activity stations include:

Horse Experiences

Scouts of all ages get a taste of life in the saddle. Tigers will work directly with our seasoned wranglers, learning about horsemanship and what it takes to be a real cowboy. They'll get hands-on experience with horse care, and cowboy culture.

Older Scouts will take it a step further, heading out on a scenic trail ride through the beautiful Butte Creek landscape. Whether they're learning the ropes or riding the trails, every Scout will leave with a deeper connection to the horses and a true cowboy experience!

BB Gun and Archery Ranges

Scouts will get the exciting opportunity to try their hand at BB guns and archery. With guidance from our trained staff, they’ll learn how to safely handle equipment and take aim at targets. It’s all about the experience—trying something new, having fun, and gaining confidence along the way. In our safe and supportive environment, every Scout can feel proud of giving it a shot, whether they hit the bullseye or not!

Nature Hike

At the Nature Area, Scouts will set off on a scenic hike along Butte Creek’s beautiful trails. Along the way, they’ll learn all about the natural world around them. Our knowledgeable staff will share tips on how to be good stewards of the environment, including important concepts like Leave No Trace. It’s a chance to explore, connect with nature, and discover how even a small act of care can help preserve the great outdoors for generations to come.

Pioneering

At the Pioneering Area, Scouts will get a taste of what life was like for early homesteaders in the Wild West. They'll learn firsthand how pioneers cooked up hearty meals using Dutch ovens, scrubbed laundry the old-fashioned way with a washboard, and tackled everyday chores without modern conveniences. It’s a hands-on opportunity to step into the boots of a pioneer, gaining an appreciation for the grit and resourcefulness of those who blazed the trails before us.

Scout Skills

At the Scout Skills Area, Scouts will have the chance to learn and practice fundamental scouting skills tailored to their age and rank. Whether they're trying something new or refining what they already know, each Scout will gain confidence through hands-on experiences.
