Some troops arrive early, or would like a few things to do Saturday morning on their way back home. While in camp, Scouts often enjoy playing games they’ve brought, throwing a frisbee or playing catch. Walks on the beach are popular, as well as visits to the tide-pools next to the cape. We’ve collected a number of ideas for you:

Things to do at camp:

You’ll have plenty to keep occupied in at camp by bringing:

• Frisbee, soccer ball, football, ball and gloves, etc.
• Chessboard, playing cards, board games
• Books to read

Other ideas:

• Stroll on the beach
• Build sandcastles
• Walk to the tide pools at the base of the cape...be sure to reference a tide table so you go at low tide.

Camp Meriwether is ideally situated for many fun excursions to local attractions such as:

• Hike to the end of Cape Lookout, a 4.7 mile round-trip hike through an ancient old growth forest with some spectacular views. The trailhead is an easy three minute drive from camp. Hike Info
• Visit the Tillamook Cheese Factory
• Visit the Tillamook Air Museum
• Visit the Tillamook Forest Center [check website for closure status]
• Visit local lighthouses including
  • Cape Meares Lighthouse
• Drive the Three Capes Scenic Loop
• Hike to Munson Creek Falls, the tallest waterfall in the coast range.

  • Tillamook Area (~30 min NE of camp)
    • Fat Head Barbeque at the Tillamook Air Museum (admission to the Air Museum not needed to visit Fat Head BBQ)
    • La Mexicana restaurant (best for small groups)
    • Tillamook also has McDonalds, Burger King, Subway, Pizza Hut, Denny’s, and a number of other dining establishments
  • Pacific City (~20 min S of camp)
    • The Oar House Bar & Grill (burgers and American fare) (best for small groups)
    • Pelican Brewing (burgers & American fare) (best for small groups)
    • The Grateful Bread bakery (morning pastry-run?)
